Founded in 1927, Harleston Players provides the opportunity for anyone to become involved in drama. We develop performance and production skills through a great variety of projects and promote the forming of partnerships with other organisations which encourages new approaches, new art and open access.
We currently produce 3 shows a year at Archbishop Sancroft High School, Harleston - drama, comedy and musicals, with an outside touring production of Shakespeare, or similar, every three years.
In the summer of 2008 we toured a production of The Merchant of Venice - directed by Cathy Gill, followed In the Autumn by Brontë by Polly Teale - directed by Yves Green.
In January 2009 we performed a production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S.Lewis - directed by Cathy Gill.
In May 2009 we will be performing The Odd Couple (a Female Version) by Neil Simon - directed by Sara Curtis.
We have a reputation for taking on a challenge and our interest in developing new skills has led us to employ various professional directors.
Our rehearsals, which include specific workshops when necessary, are held Monday and Thursday evenings, usually from 7.30pm at Jays Green Community Centre, Harleston. We rehearse 10 to 12 weeks for a production with Sunday rehearsals immediately prior to the show.
Auditions for each show will be advertised on this website, in Harleston Grapevine and in the Diss Express. We ask that you come to both auditions, if possible. To take part in a show you have to be a Friend of Harleston Players and, if you are an actor, we also charge a production fee, which covers the cost of the script and insurance, of about £12.
We welcome anybody who would like to come and join us. Whether you are an actor, or you would like to help backstage or Front of House, please get in touch!
