Our October 2010 production is

Mill on the Floss

by George Eliot

adapted by Helen Edmundson and directed by Cathy Gill

Maggie Tulliver is spirited and willful, and as she approaches adulthood, her burning desire for experience and education clashes time and again with the expectations of her family, society and her beloved brother Tom.
Drawn to two men who are in some way forbidden - the hunchbacked and sensitive Phillip Wakem, the son of her father’s sworn enemy, and to the vivacious young socialite Stephen Guest, the fiancé of Maggie’s cousin – Maggie finds her own nature torn between the claims of moral responsibility and her passionate hunger for self fulfillment.
Set in the Lincolnshire watermill where she grows up, it is a thrilling and highly charged story of love, loyalty, passion and disgrace.
