Noël Coward’s ‘Fallen Angels’ are best friends Julia and Jane, who both ‘fell’ while travelling in Italy – seduced by dashing Frenchman Maurice. As the play opens, both have been married for a number of years, and the unions are comfortable, if arid romantically speaking.
Their predictable existences are about to change, however, for on the very morning that their husbands are setting off for a weekend of golf, Julia and Jane each receives word that Maurice is in London and would love to visit his former darlings. With the husbands safely departed, they turn to each other in consternation. Maurice may turn up at any moment; should they flee or stand their ground? Will they be able to resist his charms, or helplessly succumb as before? Swinging between wild extremes of panic and delight – dreading the encounter one minute, thrilling at the prospect the next – the hysteria and hilarity build, fuelled by martinis and champagne and mounting suspicion that the other will try to ‘steal’ Maurice for herself.
Auditions take place on Monday 5th and Thursday 8th June from 7.30 – 10pm at Jays Green Community Centre, Harleston – all welcome! There are roles for 3 males and 3 females – entailing ‘strenuous physical theatre’, according to our director! It’s a comedy but not a farce. More information from firstname.lastname@example.org.
Rehearsals will be on Monday and Thursday evenings from 31st July. Performances will take place on 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28th October at Archbishop Sancroft High School.
