Directors’ Notes

 

 

Welcome to this adaptation of the Grimm brother’s tales. Having read the excellent script version by Carol Ann Duffy we both felt it was a tremendous opportunity to portray some well known and loved (and a few of the more obscure) stories. Duffy manages to keep the darkness in the stories and yet give the story telling a lightness of touch with her use of language. Both of us have enjoyed working on this production and the cast have all worked extremely hard to present these stories in this unique way. Working with a predominantly young cast, several of whom have not performed with us before, has been a fulfilling experience as we hope it has for the actors. There have been several interesting challenges to overcome along the way but we have achieved a play we are very proud of.

 

As always we would like to thank all those who have helped behind the scenes as a large show like this would not happen without it. Gill would like to add an extra thanks to everyone who made her transition into the world of directing as smooth as possible and how interesting it has been to see how things come together from another perspective.
