Harleston Players Youth Theatre Company
Harleston Players Youth Drama project was set up in
September 2004 by:
David Cumming (Harleston Players Chairman) and
Meryl Keeble (Director/Course leader).
The aim of the group is to reach out to children aged between the ages of 13 to 18 years old.
The project welcomes children from all backgrounds and does not exclude any child from participating.
This is Harleston Players Youth Theatre Company's fifth year and they
have just performed Three Little Pigs in October 2008.
Their audiences were treated to an extremely inventive and entertaining evening.
They are currently rehearsing The Princess and the Goblin to be performed
on 27th & 28th March 2009 at Archbishop Sancroft High School, Harleston
The Youth Theatre has recently gained funding from the
Local Network Fund for Children, enabling us to continue the project for a further year.
The next set of sessions will start at the end of February and run until May.
If you are between the ages of 13 and 18 and would like to become involved
(or you know someone who is), please let me know. There is no charge for
the sessions. However, we do need some extra adult help, particularly with
administering the child protection policy. This role does not involve a huge
amount of time but is essential if we are to see this young theatre company
thrive.
September 2007 the group performed ' The Zoo' which was a devised piece of theatre.
The group embarked on a challenging task to create ‘The Harleston Zoo’.
Members visited Banham Zoo where they studied animal characteristics and produced a ‘Work in Progress’.
The youngsters also worked with Community Music East to discover making music thorugh "junk" instruments.
