To celebrate their 100th anniversary, Harleston Players will be putting on that enduring and best-loved musical, GUYS AND DOLLS!
Set in the hustle and bustle of Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, Guys and Dolls is considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy. Hapless gambler Nathan Detroit is under pressure to find a venue for his illegal floating “craps” game but needs $1000 in cash, whilst the authorities are breathing down his neck; meanwhile his girlfriend, Hotbox nightclub performer Adelaide, who dreams of marriage and a house with a picket fence, laments that they've now been engaged for fourteen years, with no ring in sight. Nathan turns to a fellow gambler, the handsome high-rolling Sky Masterson for the dough, but following an unlikely bet Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced and pious young missionary Sarah Brown...
Guys and Dolls takes us from the heart of Times Square to the nightspots of Havana, Cuba and even into the sewers of New York, but eventually (hopefully!) everyone ends up right where they belong.
There are plentiful roles for men and women. The central characters need to be strong singers, but there are multiple roles for people who can sing a bit, as well as for good dancers. If you don’t see yourself as either a singer or a dancer, come along anyway - there will be plenty to get stuck into! We need a big ensemble of gamblers, missionaries, policemen, dancers, street vendors, bartenders and the people of New York!
Frank Loesser’s brassy, immortal score makes Guys and Dolls a real crowd-pleaser and features well-known and brilliant numbers including Luck Be A Lady, Marry the Man Today and Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat. This is a big show - it will be hard work but great fun, and a treat for both audiences and performers alike.
Because this is a bigger show than usual we are casting early and will start work on the songs and choreography from May 2027. Performances will be in October 2027, and the show will be directed by Cathy Edwards-Gill, with Musical Direction by Andrew Wheeler.

Our autumn production is the long-awaited sequel to ‘Allo ‘Allo. Based on the hugely popular TV comedy series, this sequel continues the adventures of reluctant resistance hero and harassed café owner Rene Artois, in German-occupied wartime France.
General Von Klinkerhoffen demands a fortune in francs in recompense for the loss of the infamous painting of ‘The Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies’ and Rene is expected to come up with the cash.
But nothing is ever easy! The cash, a set of forged notes and a bomb all end up hidden in identical camembert cheeses. What could possibly go wrong?
Performances on 23rd, 24th, 29th, 30th and 31st October.
As an award–winning amateur drama company, we are passionate about producing high quality theatre and providing an opportunity for local people to join in the creative process. Auditions are advertised and open to all, and there are numerous backstage roles, from costumes and make up to set building, sound and lighting. We normally put on three main productions each year – anything from musicals to thrillers - and we also run youth theatre projects for 9-15 year olds.
