The youth drama group had a surprise visit from Great Uncle Bulgaria - leader of the Wombles - last Thursday at their Black Sail, White Sail rehearsal.
The wise old Womble was accompanied by Bazil Leith, who made the models and sets for the popular 1970s children’s TV series. Living close to Harleston, Bazil has enjoyed making props for several Players productions, including the recent youth drama production, The Snow Queen.
For Black Sail, White Sail, Bazil has made a number of weapons - including a gold sword, a bronze club and Poseidon’s trident - as well as a life-size puppet of one of the characters. The character in question comes to a rather dramatic end, hence the need for the puppet!
Performances of the play are later this week - on Friday 25th at 7.30pm and Saturday 26th at 2.30 and 7.30pm. The play lasts approximately one hour, with no interval.
Unlike recent youth drama productions, it is being performed in the main school hall, and seating is ‘in the round’, allowing the audience to get very close to the actors. This will be a new challenge for our young cast, so please come and support them. It’s a fantastic story which will be enjoyed by old and young.
