Harleston Players

By Melanie Marnich
Directed by Eileen Ryan

Based on the true story of a group of female workers who, in the 1920s and 30s, suffered radium poisoning from painting the luminous watch dials for the Radium Dial Company in Ottawa, Illinois. Marnich’s play focuses on the close relationship which develops between the four women as they support each other through illness and their long fight to take the company to court. The story is honest and uncompromising, but the women’s resilience is inspiring, with plenty of warmth and humour.
