Serial seducer Le Vicomte de Valmont and his former mistress La Marquise de Merteuil join forces for the seduction of the innocent young Cecile and also the happily married but straight-laced Mme de Tourvel. They play these dangerous manipulative games for different reasons, both cruel and cynical.
Set in Pre-Revolutionary France this is a play of sexual manners. However such extreme pleasure seeking amongst the aristocracy leads to tragedy for the main protagonists.
Christopher Hampton’s witty and mercilessly intelligent adaptation “provides a brilliant script that entertains, along with sword-fighting, drama and poignancy.” With period costume set in high-born France, this is a fantastic spectacle.
